Akali Vervain is a ruler of Ventaka and a master of necromancy, capable of bestowing unlife upon those who ask. But Akali does so only if he has something to gain.
Ironically, Akali was saved by the Player Characters when Nierites attempted to seal him into his resting place forever. Saved from the attackers, he was willing to make a deal with Elabac: he would grant eternal life in exchange for twenty years of service, so that the Canceri armies could be bolstered by his craft.
Ultimately, Elabac turned him down at the urging of Helac val'Mordane. Akali's feelings on Elabac's decision are not known. Akali should hardly be considered a benevolent being, however: Tomas Hariot recently claimed he was on an artifact-retrieval mission on behalf of Akali in the Sulfur Marsh of Milandir.
