After a chance encounter with Emperor Oswald, the Beggar King, Sebastian Arnyal and Beldin Soulforge discover the keys to finding Captain Wendron Krubach's buried treasure. It turns out he also traveled with Garniss the Sage, who took meticulous notes about the Unspeakable One and his cult.

Captain Baldric and a brother of Althares named Oriku go along to divide up the spoils. Along the way, Sycorax's minions harry the Player Characters and the elements conspire against them.

Eventually, they discover the cave where Krubach buried his treasure. But inside is something deadly. What seems like a bear is actually a druid and his bear companion. Bijoux and Beldin are nearly killed off in the fracas.

When they finally escape with the treasure, orcs intercept them and demand the treasure. Oriku turns out to be a traitor and all hell breaks loose. In the end, Captain Bezyli's dagger protrudes from Oriku's forehead and Sebastian follows through on his promise of certain death if he were betrayed. Sure enough, it turns out the false brother of Althares worked for the Sorcerer-King of Ymandragore.
