Cael Greybeard

Page history last edited by talien 3 yrs ago

Cael is ancient, older than his disguise lets on. How old, no one is sure, but he inserted himself into the population of Moratavia a hundred years ago to prevent the return of the Umor. During that time, Cael was beloved by the people, traveling from town to town.

In reality, Cael's been doing this for centuries. He works for one hundred years to remove the threat of Umor's return from an area, and then kills off his persona, only to reappear as another human somewhere else. For an elorii, Cael is surprisingly benevolent towards humans; but it may well be he just hates Umor that much more.

Cael was getting ready to move to Freeport and begin a new persona. His plan was to fake a heart attack on stage at the celebration of Milton's Folly, but all those plans were forgotten when he set on eyes on the gigantic Yellow Sign hanging in the sky. Once Cael saw that, something snapped.

As part of his character's "death," Cael had been promised an oak tree sacred to Belisarda to be dedicated to him. Instead, Duke Adolphos val'Tensen's men cut it down for a feasthall. Cael was irritated about it, but he was willing to let it go...until he saw the Sign.

Cael decided he was going to make Adolphos and the rest of Moratavia suffer. Instead of protecting against Umor, he would tell his tale, driving villagers mad. And that's exactly what he did, first at Derek's Holding, then at Dunover, then Brighton. It was only when he reached Adolphos' castle that he realized he had inadvertently summoned the King in Yellow, falling right into Umor's hands. So, with his last bit of strength, Cael turned the tables and hurled the Yellow King back to Carcosa in the Far Realm.

The energy destroyed him, unfortunately. But as a Keeper of the Belisardan Sign, IlmarÄ— Galen learned much from him. Perhaps he has passed a torch of sorts...
