Cast Upon Tides of Weal and Woe

Captain Baldric thinks he's on to something: an old foe by the name of Captain Wendron Krubach suddenly kidnapped a child. Itching for revenge, Baldric recruits the Player Characters, who don't have any leads on the whereabouts of Cassicus anyway. So off they go, sailing hard after a pirate captain gone mad.

It's not long before they find the remains of his ship and a boy named Emric. Kham val'Abebi performs the rescue, while Beldin Soulforge fights a life-and-death battle with sharks and a sea urchin. Emric's description of his mother Sycorax seems very peculiar, especially when he indicates she looks like Calactyte. From that point on, Cal feels responsible for the lad.

At the same time, a ragtag band of mercenaries has been hired by Sea Lord Drac to capture the boy. As it turns out, Emric is a potential contender to the throne of Drac, and the Sea Lord will have none of that. So Broled Knenag recruits even meaner bad guys, including the pyromaniac Neyadis Andrel, the bloodthirsty Broled Knenag, the psychopathic Amalia Grat, and the cool as ice gunslinger Zainat Zameri. They successfully steal Emric away from our heroes while Zainat has a showdown (of sorts) with Kham...who runs away.

It's not long before they discover Emric again, only to find that his name is Camring. When they return the boy to his uncle, Thralen Vodric val'Ossan, they learn that Camring is the real deal. In the mean time, Vlad Martell performs his secret mission: to uncover a Censuri spy. He only manages to get himself in a lot of trouble, when Cunegunda outwits him with her feminine wiles. Fortunately, Camring is kidnapped and everyone's attention is focused on recovering the boy.

With twins tied up in a warehouse, it's up to our heroes to rescue them. Sebastian Arnyal favors a stealthier attack by fire, but the warehouse is too wet for the tactic. Vlad leads a group of val'Ossan guards against the mercenaries, only for both sides to be ambushed by Sycorax's minions. Bijoux manages to rescue the boy, at the urging of the spirit of Tivatia.

Leaving the chaotic melee behind, Thralen discovers that Camring was actually an impostor, the "witch's get" of Sycorax. Emric is the real heir to the throne. Camring reverts to his true form: a frog-like monstrosity, and promptly runs away into the jungle. Thralen decides to take Emric back to the mainland in Milandir, if only to keep the boy safe.
