Kham val'Abebi receives a note from his friend Egil that he needs his help. The other Player Characters go along. At the same time, Nauris Drilian arrives in town hot on the trail of ssanu spies from Altheria. A press gang finds out the hard way that Dril should be left alone.
It seems a mutual friend of Egil's and Kham's named Lucius has disappeared. Egil worries that Lucius has fallen in trouble yet again, so he enlists the PCs. Their first stop: the ship that Lucius was last on, the orc-run Bloody Vengeance.
As it turns out, the Bloody Vengeance's crew is guarding a magical staff that has nothing to do with Lucius. Thanks to a brilliant synchronized sting between IlmarÄ— Galen and Nauris, Kham steals the staff, with Aggro and Captain Drak Scarbelly in hot pursuit. The magical staff is too hot to hold onto, so Kham donates it to the Emerald Society.
Their efforts are interrupted by the arrival of the Yellow Shield gang, led by Rittoro and Belko. Both quickly meet their end, but in doing so give up the name of one of their contacts: Enzo.
Enzo, as it turns out, is a wannabe cultist who sings like a canary. Thanks to his directions, the PCs discover the ssanu lair and mount an assault. It doesn't go well.
Vlad falls down a pit, Kham is hypnotized by the ssanu, and Dril is poisoned in the fracas. They discover a temple to the Unspeakable One, only to discover that the Altherian priest known as Milos is in fact a ssanu cultist. Once again, things don't go quite according to plan. In the end, Milos is dead and Kham pees on the "sanctum of the Unspeakable One" in revenge for violating the sanctum of Althares.
Lucius is returned to the temple and all is right with Freeport. For now.
To this day, Kham is haunted by the King in Yellow. Who says Great Old Ones don't have feelings?
