- Kham Character Sheet
Kham is a rogue, gambler, alcoholic, psionic, of noble Coryan lineage, pirate, scoundrel, thief, and marksman. Depending on who you talk to, he's either enemy number one or a hero of the people. That makes Kham an interesting person to be around.
Kham is actually part Altherian, which makes him stand out in a crowd--he is neither fully accepted by Coryani or Altherians. This lack of acceptance ultimately drove him away from his mother's homestead in Coryan. Instead, Kham chose to live a life of adventure like his father, who had left his mother when he was young.
He moved to Altheria, where he acquired the plans to several experimental flintlock pistols. Using the plans, Kham fled to Freeport to craft his own weapons and seek his fortune. It was this betrayal to the Altherian nation that earned a bounty on his head, a bounty that Zainat Zameri would ultimately try to collect.
In Freeport, Kham up as a pirate, where he bounced from one disastrous relationship to another. All of his female companions ended in their deaths, though Kham adamantly claims he is not responsible for any of them. In their memory, he has named his pistols after each one of his lost lovers.
Eventually, Kham was able to find his errant father and, in an attempt to follow in his footsteps, joined the Emerald Society. This membership has proven less fruitful than Kham would have hoped; it does make for an excellent place to dump artifacts that are "too hot" for him to sell elsewhere.
Although Kham claims no allegiance to any particular nation, he been employed by the Altherian government as well as Decimus on behalf of Coryan. Kham dislikes Coryani in general because they remind him of his mother, which may be the reason why he doesn't get along well with Quintus Aurelius Ignatius.
Kham's latest relationship isn't with a woman, but with a sword. Fleshripper, the bloodthirsty blade, often drives Kham into insane rages. He hates the thing, especially because it's so heavy, and forces the smaller Kham to engage opponents he'd much rather shoot from a distance. Kham has worked with Elabac to get rid of the blade, but so far without much success. If anything, it's hold over him has gotten stronger.
Kham professes a belief in Althares, the god of knowledge. He's not exactly a devout worshipper, but is proud of the human side of his heritage and takes the guardianship role of the val seriously, if not always successfully.
Kham's biggest weakness is for drink. Haunted by the deaths of his lovers, mind-shattering encounters with the Unspeakable One, his burgeoning psychic powers (which sometimes given him pounding headaches) and Fleshripper, Kham has good reasons to drown his sorrows in alcohol. And yet, in spite of himself, Kham has saved a lot of peoples' lives.
If anyone has earned the moniker of the "Gonnes, Sons and Treasure Runs" Story Hour, it's Kham. Thanks to Kham, he has rescued several peoples' sons, including Camring, Cassicus Emric I, and Emric II.
