Khorbon is no ordinary member of the Brotherhood of the Yellow Sign. His goal is much more than to bring about the end of the world; he wants to become a prince in Carcosa.
To that end, Khorbon planned to torture a priest of Illiir. Quintus Aurelius Ignatius fit the bill. He would then offer the mad sacrifice as a gift to the King in Yellow, whereupon he expected to be granted a royal title in the Far Realm. But to achieve all this, he had to get to Carcosa first.
That's where Ambrose came in. He summoned the Far Realm resident and encouraged him to build clocworks. It was Ambrose who built the two clockwork marionettes, as well as the clocwork minotaur suit. Khorbon was missing the invitation to the party in Carcosa, an invitation only IlmarÄ— possessed. He planned to steal it, but his plan ultimately failed.
Beldin finished off Khorbon with a throwing axe to the head.
