Nauris Dril, or just Dril to his friends, followed the trail of ssanu treachery from deep within Altheria itself. As a member of the Shining Patrol, Dril pursued the ssanu who killed his friend to Freeport.
It took two minutes before Freeport rolled out an official welcome: a press gang tried to beat Dril into unconsciousness. A melee and several dead pirates later, and the press gang moved on to easier prey. Vlad Martell was impressed with the combat and asked to Dril to join their investigation of Lucius. Dril kept his concerns about disguised ssanu to himself.
After they collectively defeated Milos, Dril knew that his worst fears were realized. Ssanu were, in fact, taking over important positions in Freeport, Altheria, and possibly elsewhere. Were they Ssethregoran spies? Crazed cultists? He intended to find out.
Dril's investigative skills came in handy during Swagfest in Freeport, when he helped locate Egil and Lucius, single-handedly killing an aranea that had kidnapped them. He was also extremely useful in tracking down a senator's seal in Grand Coryan.
Dril returned to Freeport after that, monitoring Egil and Lucius' activities. He called upon the other Player Characters again when Freeport began to buzz with activity leading up to the unveiling of Milton's Folly. Just as Dril had feared, the corruption of the Brotherhood of the Yellow Sign reached beyond disguised ssanu, all the way up to the Sea Lord himself, Milton Drac.
In the madness that followed, the Yellow Sign was projected, briefly, into the skies above Freeport. Certain performers who were on stage got a good look at it, and invariably all went insane. Most committed suicide or died in violence common to Freeport's mean streets. But one man in particular escaped to the mainland: Cael Greybeard.
Dril tracked Cael to his home village, Derek's Holding in Moratavia, only to bump into the PCs again. They worked together to stop the King in Yellow from absorbing all of Moratavia into the Far Realm.
Dril traveled with Vlad to Sulfurmarsh, where the other PCs joined up with Calactyte, Bijoux, and Sebastian Arnyal. To his amazement, they were friends with a ss'ressen, his sworn enemies. It took Dril some time to get over his prejudices, but after witnessing the suffering that Cal's tribe experienced, he began to reconsider his position. Cal rescued Dril from certain death, which leaves the sworn enemy of all things scaly uncertain if his cause is always just. Perhaps there is some hope for the "scalebacks" (and for Dril) after all...
