Talbot is something of a kook. After the Yellow Sign flashed in the sky, beamed from Milton's Folly, he couldn't sleep and suffered from an intense fear of the stars. When he stumbled across a copy of The King in Yellow, he immediately bought it from Elijah Quelch.
It turns out Qulech bought it from Livius Carbo. Reading it drove him completely mad, whereupon he resolved to conduct a play of the book at the Freeport Opera House, titled "The Queen and the Stranger."
The results were predictable: complete chaos. Talbot blithely went on with the cast party afterwards at The Last Resort and waved off the reaction as "passion." Recognizing him to be a deadly if somewhat misguided threat to Freeport, Sebastian Arnyal was forced to murder him.
