Egil asks Kham val'Abebi to intercede on behalf of Lucius, who was committed to the Tombs in Freeport for murdering his sister and father. With Lucius' case up for review, Judge Shamus McGowan will determine if Lucius is confined to the Tombs indefinitely or if he is sent to the Hulks, floating prisons that Lucius would surely not survive. Grahame Roby, Lucius' older brother, wants to have him sent to the Hulks, but Corinalous val'Abebi wants to keep Lucius in the Tombs. Egil hopes to have Lucius released into the Temple of Althares' care.
After agreeing to intervene, Kham visits the Fortress of Justice to speak with Judge McGowan and a sergeant of the Sea Lord's Guard, Price Rurbach. They receive permission to speak with Lucius. To their surprise, Lucius directly quotes lines from Talbot Estus' play, a play that had only just been released and with Lucius completely cut off from the outside world.
After learning of Cuthbert Yates' death at the hands of a fellow inmate known as Alexander Harriwell, who speaks of a strange devil actually committing the murder. Chalking it up to his insanity, the Player Characters discover that a guard committed suicide: Frederick Haddon, Aljandros Haddon's son.
