Sebastian Arnyal and his allies travel to Sweet Savona to escort Oriena val'Sheem to the Temple of Larissa. Once there, they bump into Decimus, who hires them to retrieve three elorii artifacts that were stolen. It also happens to be the Saturnalia ex Mille Basiare, or the Festival of a Thousand Kisses. Kham val'Abebi and Vlad Martell are determined to compete to win the title of Consort to Larissa...the winner stays in the temple of Larissa for one week. 'Nuff said.

The artifacts turn out to be very important indeed, tied to the past lives of IlmarÄ— Galen. They were to be delivered to a Ymandrake Harvester. In the middle of all this is Oriena's servant Hetshapet, who hopes to purchase her sister Maatkare's freedom from prostitution. Maatkare's boyfriend, Senmet, is in way over his head--as a member of Menu's gang, he discovered the secret cargo of the Ymandrakes but was infected by its contents. After Sebastian convinces Maatkare to help, they pursue Senmet to an underground lair.

It is there that the last of the ilHuan have made their nest in the hope of bringing their race back from the brink of extinction. Senmet is an unfortunate victim of their attempts to return from genocide.

Ultimately, the Player Characters decide to let the ilHuan live. Maatkare is freed, but Senmet is lost. The various elorii artifacts are given to Ilmare as a gift by Quintus Aurelius Ignatius in celebration of the Saturnalia--a gift she misinterprets as charity.
