If dark-kin are half-demons, val are half-angels. Descended from the angelic valinor, the various val families are extremely influential in the world of Arcanis. All val have gray eyes, which immediately gives away their heritage. Val who are psionic have white pupils, which makes staring them in the eye very disconcerting. There are too many val families to cover here, but they all possess powers inherent to their blood.

Val were created during the God War as the elite warriors of the Gods and thereafter, as the caretakers of Mankind. In their stead, every god sent his servants, the Valinor, to mingle with the populace, and create a semi-divine family capable of aiding mankind. Every Val has a bloodline, which is tied to a specific god; they are gifted with divine powers which they may improve; these are related to their bloodline. For example, val'Ossan are tied to Yarris, god of the sea, and can gain Bloodline Powers such as walking on water and controlling sea creatures.

In theory, val have the burden of humanity on their shoulders and are responsible for protecting and defending it. Of course, the definition of "humanity" varies from group to group, such that val run the same range of morality as ethics as any normal human.

Kham val'Abebi is a val and takes his role seriously. Most of the time, anyway.
